What You’ll Be Doing
As our Medical Lead, you will play a central role in driving clinical excellence and ensuring the service continues to deliver safe, effective, compassionate care.
- Provide strategic leadership, ensuring consistent, high‑quality standards of care and fidelity to our clinical model.
- Champion a positive, recovery‑focused and trauma‑informed culture, influencing practice across the unit.
- Represent the medical team at governance meetings, service development discussions, and external stakeholder forums.
- Oversee medical input into audits, QI projects and service evaluations, ensuring learning and improvement are embedded in everyday practice.
- Offer professional leadership, supervision, and support to Consultant Psychiatrists and Associate Specialists within the service.
- Coordinate medical cover, ensuring safe, effective clinical staffing across the unit.
- Lead medical workforce processes, including recruitment, induction and appraisal.
You will join 2 full time psychiatrists, an associate specialist and an established multidisciplinary team at the Farndon Unit and act as a Responsible Clinician for up to 15 inpatients across both our rehabilitation ward and our low secure service. You will have the support of an associate specialist on the rehabilitation ward, a full multidisciplinary team, a personal assistant, a CPA Co-ordinator and a MHA Co-ordinator.

As Consultant Psychiatrist working in the service, your responsibilities will include:
- Working effectively with patients and colleagues to ensure the best care and treatment outcomes
- Driving multidisciplinary care and leading and managing the CPA, ICR and CTR process of reviews
- Building positive relationships with external stakeholders such as ICBs
- Undertaking psychiatric assessments for women referred to the unit
- Providing oral and written evidence at First-tier Tribunal and Hospital Managers’ hearings
- Delivery of evidence-based treatment approaches in line with NICE guidance
- Medication management and co-production of therapeutic treatment plans with our service users
On-Call Duties
- Participation in our 1 in 8 on-call rota that covers 2 tiers of support to 9 units across the Midlands and Yorkshire regions The on-call is entirely remote and mostly involves telephone support and advice.
To be successful in this role, you'll need to:
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full GMC registration with licence to practice
- MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
- Section 12(2) approval, Approved Clinician status
- Clinical training and experience required for gaining UK CCT.
- Experience of assessment and management of patients in psychiatric rehabilitation settings.
- Experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist, with proven ability to provide clinical leadership within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated engagement in service development or governance activities, prior formal management experience desirable but not essential.

The Farndon Unit is located in Newark and is part of IMPACT Provider Collaborative in the region with close links to NHS services with established care pathways. Newark has excellent transport links and is commutable from Lincoln, Nottingham, Sleaford and Mansfield.
The Farndon Unit, rated good across all domains by the CQC, is a small friendly unit, that caters to women with complex mental health needs across. We provide care for up to 40 women across 3 low secure wards (26 beds), one level 2 rehabilitation ward (12 beds) and our new psychiatric rehabilitation ward (8 beds) aimed at individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders and comorbid mental illness. We pride ourselves on offering a trauma informed approach to our patients and offer a combination of standard and bespoke packages to meet the needs of our patient group.
